Racing Down the Sun is a new collection of poetry from Limerick born poet Ron Carey and the launch takes place Sunday 18th Nov 2018 2.30pm in the Limerick City Gallery of Art, Pery Square, Limerick .
The book is published by Revival Press, an imprint of The Limerick Writers’ Centre, under their Community Publishing initiative and will be launched by poet and writer Catherine Phil MacCarthy. All are welcome to attend.
Racing Down the Sun brings together poems written over the past number of years. This is Ron’s second poetry collection and follows on from his hughly successful debut collection Distance – which was nominated for the prestigious Forward Prize for poetry. Racing Down the Sun, explores the themes of life extraordinary and builds on the promise of that first collection. The poems range from family relationships to classical mythology, from converted churches to goldmining in Africa. These themes are conveyed with a lyrical thoughtfulness that is vivid, precise and startlingly emotional.
Ron Carey was born in Limerick and lives in Dublin. He has been a prize winner and finalist in many international poetry competitions, including the Bridport Prize, Fish International Poetry Prize, Gregory O’ Donoghue International Poetry Awards, Wasafiri New Writing Award, Hugh O’ Flaherty Poetry Prize, The Patrick Kavanagh Awards and the Cinnamon Press Poetry Awards. In 2015, he received a Masters in Creative Writing from the University of South Wales. His first poetry collection, DISTANCE, was shortlisted for the Forward Prize Best First Collection 2016, UK and Ireland.
